Whenever we have an issue with our body, the natural tendency is to look for a quick fix. Have acidity - pop an antacid, have headache - take an aspirin. There is no harm in taking them just to get rid of the pain instantly, but be aware that these medicines only fixes the symptom and does not fix the root cause.

Nature has given us ample gifts that have the potential to prevent as well as cure some of the major health related concerns, even the chronic ones. One such gift is spices. In Ayurveda, spices have a special place to cure diseases, detoxify our body, strengthen various bodily systems, reduce inflammation, etc.

Here are 5 concoctions that you can make with spices available at home:

  1. Coriander Seeds Concoction:

         Preparation for 2 Cups: 

  • Mix 3 Cups of Water + 3 tbsp. Coriander seeds
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes till the water reduces to 2 Cups
  • Filter and drink

         Cures/Prevents:

  • Arthritis Pain
  • Any other type of pain in the body
  • Reduces bloating  (Try this to reduce puffiness on the face)
  • Reduces inflammation in the body
  • Flushes out extra water from the body


  1. Cumin+ Fennel+ Carom Seeds Concoction:

        Preparation for 2 Cups: 

  • Mix 3 Cups of Water + 1tbsp. each of Cumin, Fennel & Carom seeds
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes till the water reduces to 2 Cups
  • Filter and drink

        Cures/Prevents:

  • Acidity
  • Improves digestion


  1. Weight Loss Tea

         Preparation for 2 Cups: 

  • Mix 3 Cups of Water + 1 sq. inch piece of ginger root +2-3 peppercorns+ 1 cinnamon stick+ 2 cardamom pods+ 2 cloves
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes till the water reduces to 2 Cups
  • Filter, add 1 tbsp. lemon juice and drink

         Cures/Prevents:

  • Detoxify
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves cellular health
  • Control high blood pressure
  • Lower Cholesterol

  1. Immunity Tea

         Preparation for 2 Cups: 

  • Mix 3 Cups of Water + 2 tsp. turmeric powder+ 4 peppercorns+ 1 tbsp. desi ghee 
  • Note: Take turmeric that is high in curcumin (7-8%)
  • Optional: 1 inch cinnamon stick, 1 inch ginger, 2 cloves
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes till the water reduces to 2 Cups
  • Filter, add 1 tbsp. lemon juice and drink.

  1. Cinnamon Tea (For diabetics)

         Preparation for 2 Cups: 

  • Mix 3 Cups of Water + 1 Srilankan Cinnamon roll
  • Note: It’s important to strictly use Srilankan Cinnamon roll for this tea for maximum benefits
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes till the water reduces to 2 Cups
  • Filter and drink

         Cures/Prevents:

  • Diabetes
  • Regulates Insulin level (helpful especially after eating sweets in excess)
